Dennis’ music career began when his son, John (age 10 at the time), said, “Dad, I need a bass player”. At that time, John was doing a one man comedy show with his banjo and humor. It was named “Hot Stuff”. That’s all it took!
Dennis immediately jumped on the musical bandwagon with John and his newly acquired $100 up-right bass.

Dennis immediately jumped on the musical bandwagon with John and his newly acquired $100 up-right bass. Their band, The Country Legends Band, played mostly bluegrass, older country and gospel music. For the next several years they performed hundreds of stage shows. One Memorial show was at the Julia Tutwiler Prison for women in Wetumpka, Alabama. The audience was about one thousand highly enthusiastic female prisoners. The Warden said that to his knowledge no other band had ever performed inside the prison.
The band later changed its name to The Cadillacs and added Doo Wop, oldies Rock and Roll, Classic, Patriotic, and considerably more gospel music.
At one point, The Cadillacs lost their long time keyboard player. Not wanting to lose their bookings, Dennis practiced on the keyboards three hours a day all winter and by spring, he was ready for their stage shows that had been mostly booked the previous year. The Cadillacs’ song list now contains hundreds of songs, mostly Oldie Goldies.
For the past several years, The Cadillacs has been an all girl band plus Dennis.
Besides the music, Dennis’ other hobbies include flying both fixed wing and helicopters. He also enjoys water skiing, riding motorcycles and working out. Dennis is still practicing law daily. He was municipal Judge in Killen, AL for five years and Waterloo, AL for fifteen years.
Carolyn Odem, wife for fifty years, has been very supportive and continues to attend most of the Cadillacs’ shows.
If you like Oldie Goldies and Feel Good Music by Elvis, Roy Orbison, James Brown, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chubby Checker, Chuck Berry, Hank Williams and many more, come see some of our shows. You will be glad you did! Our motto is “You get your money’s worth the first fifteen minutes and the rest of the show is absolutely free”.
